Description:

FIDEL CASTRO
(b. 1927) Cuban revolutionary who led the guerilla campaign against Batista, overthrowing the dictator and replacing him with the first communist government in the Western Hemisphere. Bold signature across a Time Magazine article about Castro, "Rebel's Rousing Return", Oct. 22, 1979, covering Castro's UN speech in which the Cuban leader declared, "I have not come here as a prophet of revolution, nor have I come here to ask that the world be violently convulsed...I speak on behalf of the children of the world who don't even have a piece of bread". Boldly signed "Fidel Castro" in blue marker. Fine.
