Description:

ERNST ROHM
(1887 - 1934) Nazi Brownshirt who organized, trained and headed the SA, a friend of Hitler who was at his side in the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch, later set-up and executed by Hitler following their disagreement on the use of the two million-strong SA. Rare early A.L.S. ‘Rohm' on the verso of a commercial postcard, Halle, Oct. 26 [1925] to his homosexual lover, Franz Kugler. In full: ‘My dear Kugler! My mother wrote to me saying that you intended to visit me; what a shame that we missed each other. I spent 8 days in Berlin and now I am staying here as a guest for a little while. I will be back in Munich around mid November. Prosch wrote to me too, that you had consulted him. Don't lose touch with me and I look forward to hearing from you from time to time. Maybe we can work together once again. Best wishes in loyal friendship yours Rohm' Chip to one corner repaired with cello tape on verso, else very good. In a 1926 letter to Kugler sold by us several years ago, Rohm declared: ‘…You naughty pig-boy, write 'my dear Rohm', just as if we already laid in bed together, which is regrettably not the case. We'll leave it at that….' The ‘Prosch' reference is to GERHARD VON PROSCH (1895-1937), a top leader of the S.A. and another of Rohm's male lovers. Prosch escaped death on the ‘Night of the Long Knives', but was held at Dachau until he was released and escaped to Turkey where he died.
