Description:

EMPRESS DOWAGER SHOKEN
(1849-1914) Masako Ichijo, wife of Emperor Meiji of Japan. She was one of the founders of the Japanese Red Cross Society and was posthumously honored as Empress Dowager Shoken. Offered here is a presentation portrait photo, 7.5 x 11 in. b/w, showing the crowned empress in a seated position dressed in regal attire with ornate surroundings. The photo is mounted to a 14.25 x 18.5 in. poster board along with a gilt embossed royal chrysanthemum at the top. Her printed signature at the bottom margin. Some water staining to the board but the photo remains in excellent condition. Very good.
