ALBERT EINSTEIN Very fine content T.L.S. "A. Einstein " 1p. 4to, on his personally-imprinted letterhead, Princeton, Oct. 21, 1953, to John M. Berkowitz of the Milton H. Friedberg Fund, in part: "...For many years I have been increasingly interested in the work of the American Committee for ƒmigr? Scholars, Writers and Artists. This Committee has welcomes and counseled most of the European professional of all creeds who have had the privilege of coming to America to escape totalitarian oppression. I know only too well how important it is for an ?migr? professional to receive this kind of help. The American Committee provides a place where such a newcomer finds advisers who understands his problems....The services of the American Committee are now needed more than ever before. Many of the professionals who arrived here during the last few years under the Displaced Persons Act at first gladly accepted low-level jobs if no others were available...Unfortunately, all too many are still in their first low-level jobs...Additional professionals will soon arrive among the 214,000 immigrants authorized by the Act recently passed by Congress with the strong support of President Eisenhower...I therefore feel strongly that the American Committee should be given the continuing support of understanding American citizens and institutions...". Usual folds, otherwise very good. $2,000-3,000
