Description:

EICKHORN DEUTSCHER SCHUTZEN VERBAND POSTWAR DAGGER
A beautiful postwar piece, a Deutscher Schutzen Verband ('German Shooting Association') dagger with scabbard made by the prestigious firm of Eickhorn in Solingen. The dagger measures 17.75 in. long overall. It features a 13 in. long steel double-sided blade acid-etched with forestry scenes interspersed with arabesques and bullseye targets. The reverse ricasso is maker marked by Eickhorn. The blade sits securely with the crossguard, with the blade retaining a green felt buffer pad. The crossguard displays hooked quillons terminating in acorns, while the obverse has a clamshell bearing a wreathed German Shooting Association insignia, constructed of silvered bronze with enamels. It shows some oxidation about the lettering. The grip appears to be celluloid or perhaps painted wood, with the obverse bearing a bronze crossed rifle insignia. At top it is fitted with a ribbed aluminum pommel with a grooved nut. It is accompanied by its period scabbard, constructed of blackened leather shaft with metal fixtures, slightly scratched. A new black leather frog is also present. Very good.
