EDWARD HAND
(1744 -1802) General officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War who commanded troops in some of the key battles of the war, including Long Island and Trenton. Fine content A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Philadelphia, Jan. 7, 1790 to future Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Jasper Yeats concerning the ongoing Pennsylvania State convention to revise the radical Pennsylvania Constitution of 1776. Sitting in convention, with little to do, Hand writes to Yeats, "Since I last wrote to you Col. Johnson has arrived, he as I imagined must himself receive your depreciation Interest - I do not however despair of procuring it for you, I have not yet recd my own- We have for many days past been busie [sic] in Convention, doing nothing- if in the end we do well much praise will be due to Mr. [James] Wilson. I beg my respects to Mrs. Yeates & the family..."With integral address leaf neatly laid into another sheet which has been endorsed by JASPER YEATES (1745-1817) noting the letter was "Ansrd 10 Jany. 1790". Usual folds, else fine condition.
