Description:

EDWARD GEIN'S SILVER RING AND GREETING CARD
EDWARD GEIN (1906 - 1984) American murderer and grave robber. His crimes, which he committed in Plainfield, Wisconsin, garnered widespread notoriety after authorities discovered Gein had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies and keepsakes from their bones and skin. He also confessed to killing two women: tavern owner Mary Hogan in 1954, and hardware store owner Bernice Worden in 1957. Gein was the inspiration for 'Buffalo Bill' in the film 'The Silence of the Lambs', and 'Norman Bates' in 'Psycho'. A chilling pair of Gein relics, includes Gein's personal sterling silver initialed ring, about 7/8 in. diameter in an Art Deco style with an 835 purity mark within the band along with two illegible hallmarks, probably of European manufacture. The flat top of the ring bears his 'E G' initials in a period font. The ring is accompanied by a ca. 1984 'Thank You' card with 1984 postmarked envelope. The card, signed 'Edward Gein', bears a typed message reading: 'Dear Jeff, Thank you for helping me with this. The ring is not snug as it once was. If you can have it taken down a size then that will work fine for me. You can mail it directly to me here when it is finished...' Also present is the envelope which originally contained the ring.
