Description:

CHARLES STARKWEATHER PRISON FINGERPRINT CHART
CHARLES STARKWEATHER (1938–1959) American spree killer who murdered eleven people in Nebraska and Wyoming between November 1957 and January 1958, when he was nineteen years old. He killed ten of his victims alone in the eight days preceding his arrest. During his spree, Starkweather was accompanied by his fourteen-year-old girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate. Starkweather was sentenced to death and executed 17 months later; Fugate served 17 years in prison. Their crimes inspired the 1994 film 'Natural Born Killers'. Excessively rare partly-printed D.S., 8 x 4.5 in., Nebraska State Prison, Starkweather's June 7, 1958 fingerprint card bearing impressions of all ten of his fingers, his name stamped thereto, with his prisoner number '20396', and signed by him 'Starkweather Charles' in pencil at top. His name also appears in block letters just above his signature, and this is likely in Starkweather's hand as well. At upper-right, it is was later noted that Starkweather is 'Dead'. Vertical fold and a file hole at top, else near fine. SOLD WITH: the rare book: 'The Murderous Trail of Charles Starkweather' by Prof. James M. Reinhardt (Springfield, Il: Charles C. Thomas), 1960. The book contains a study of Starkweather's life and crimes, and includes images of his handwritten autobiography and signed drawings, the signatures perfectly matching that on the fingerprint card. An incredible rarity, one of only a tiny number of signed pieces by Starkweather and the only known fingerprint card.
