Description:

EARLY AMERICAN FINANCE A scarce and desirable broadside, a New York Insurance Company broadside folio, New York, December 31, 1807, entitled "List of Stockholders in the New-York Insurance Company, December 31, 1807". The New York Insurance Company was founded in 1796 and was the first regularly organized New York company to underwrite shipping. The list of stockholders includes over 200 names including much of the first tier of New York society including John Jacob Astor as well as numerous members of the Ludlow, Bleecker, Tillary, Morris Wykoff, Hicks, Beekman, Goelet, Verplank, McDougal and Wikoff families. An asterisk has been placed beside those listed as Directors of the company. Also of interest is the significant share of women listed as shareholders (e.g. Sally Morris, Cornelia Ann Ludlow, Margaret Armstrong, Helen McDougal, etc.) Partial fold separations and minor marginal chips to little to detract from this fine piece of New York financial history. The only extant example known. $600-800
