Description:

PHINEAS T. BARNUM (1810 - 1891) American showman who opened his circus, "The Greatest Show On Earth", merged with James Bailey to form Barnum and Bailey Circus. A.L.S. "P. T. Barnum" 1p. 8vo., Bridgeport, Sept. 16, 1873, to Mr. Bissell, promoting a deal that - in his inimitable style - sounds too good to be true. In part: "....If you will run up see me I will show you a chance for a swell investment that is better in any way than anything I have seen for years. It is easily handled, requires no capital to speak of, none for that matter, and is far superior to the printers' speculation as it is possible for you to conceive. There is no risk in the investment, and the are no stockholders or parties interested in the matter. The property is peculiarly accessible from your present residence... ". A bit of staining and foxing, very good condition. Pure Barnum! $700-900
