Description:

EARLY ALLGEMEINE-SS NCO KEPI
Early style Allgemeine-SS non-commissioned officer's kepi, in excellent condition. The midnight black wool cap has an early 1929 styled metal party eagle with black painted mobile swastika in pristine condition, affixed above a round black corozon button, and beneath which is pinned a near-perfect early aluminum totenkopf emblem showing a nice patina. The cap's two-piece leather chin strip is also in very good condition, attached to the cap with two black metal buttons at either side. The bands are slightly scuffed, as are the buttons, yet not greatly detracting. The cap is lined in in a tan cotton with trace remnant glue spots presumed from celluloid diamond sweat protector that once protected the crown of the lining, and fitted with a perforated leather sweatband which is marked with the 'EXTRA' logo on the left side, with areas of the sweatband being partly eroded. Behind the sweatband is an 'SS Dienstmutze' RZM cloth tag which appears to be perfectly in order. The lining bears a faint ink stamp, with 'Dachau 1933' being the only distinguishable words. Overall, this rare kepi is in excellent condition, showing no tears nor any moth damage, the visor and sides still formed as made, with fine insignia - a very desirable and rare example. This exact cap is shown on page 7 of Kit Wilson's book, 'SS HEADGEAR, A COLLECTOR'S GUIDE'
