Description:

EARLY ALGEMEINE-SS STURMBANNFUHRER UNIFORM
A rare, most desirable very early Algemeine-SS Sturmbannfuhrer's tunic and pants. The black wool tunic's collar is piped with twisted silver wire braid, with the left lapel bearing the four-pip tab of a Sturmbannfuhrer (one pip discolored), and the right tab bears a silver wire embroidered number '15', representing SS-Standarte 15. Both tabs are also piped in twisted silver wire braid and have been hand sewn to the lapels. An appropriate silver bullion shoulder board is sewn to the right shoulder and is partially retained with a silver pebbled button. Four similar buttons are used to secure the garment at the front, as well as to close the four flapped pockets, and they also appear on either side of the rear vent. The sleeves both have 5 3/4 in. cuffs, the left sleeve bearing a cuff title with silver wire trim and the number '15'. The right sleeve bears a silver wire ribbon 'V' Honour Chevron. Affixed to the front of the uniform is a Nazi Party badge, a red and white medal ribbon, and a ribbon bar showing the award of Iron Crosses, War Merit Cross with Swords, 8-Year Service Medal, several Austrian awards, etc. An SS NSDAP armband is sewn to the left arm - it is made of three pieces, with a folded ribbon-style swastika on a white gabardine disc. The tunic within is fully lined. Present also is a pair of regulation SS black wool trousers, catch and hook closure with a button fly, two slash pockets with buttoned flaps and a watch pocket at the front, and two flapped pockets on the seat, one lacking a button. The pants narrow at the bottom, one missing the usual straps. The pants are also fitted with a reinforced seat. This uniform shows a good deal of very honest wear and a few repairs made by its owner. Front buttonholes are well worn and have been reinforced in places with black stitching, a small tear to the left breast pocket has been hastily stitched, and there is a good deal of wear at the ends of the cuffs. The bottom of the fly on the trousers was torn, and it too was repaired 'on the go'. There are only a very few negligible moth holes, very small, located on the back of the tunic, and two or three on the party armband. Overall, a very good, early, completely legitimate piece.
