Description:

SS-TOTENKOPFVERBANDE KZ OBERSCHARFUHRER TUNIC
Very rare SS-Totenkopfverbande Obersharfuhrer's tunic in exceptional condition. This tunic in the Army pattern M36 field blouse style is made of officer-quality material, in a summerweight green twill fabric, and showing only minor signs of wear. The dark green wool collar is trimmed with silver-aluminum wire tresses, the left collar tab being solid black with two silver-washed pips indicating the owner's rank of Oberscharfuhrer, the right collar tab is black with a white embroidered 'pumpkin-head' pattern totenkopf skull. Correct, authentic cloth slip-on shoulder boards with correct rank are fitted to the tunic, each with one pip, silver-aluminum wire tresses, and the medium brown piping indicative of service in the SS-TV. The weave of the piping is a textbook example of correct piping for these boards. The upper left sleeve bears a subdued white embroidered SS national eagle, correct in every respect. The collar tabs and this eagle are machine-sewn to the garment. Each sleeve also bears a double row of silver-aluminum tresses indicating that the wearer was the senior NCO, or 'Der Spiess' of his company. A small ribbon bar is pinned above the left pocket, with ribbons for the award of the Iron Cross, 2nd Class, and the Ostmedaille. All of the original silver pebbled buttons are present, secured to the tunic with their original split rings. The tunic is nearly untouched within, with both belt hooks present (additional hooks would be found on combat tunics). The upper part of the tunic is lightly lined in a beige cloth, with black stamps: 'KI.H.St.' within a box, and '43'. A larger stamp showing the sizes within an outline box is also present, but has faded to the point of invisibility. The condition of this tunic makes it clear that it was worn and laundered only a handful of times, as evidenced by just the least bit of puckering of the fabric at the hem at the bottom of the tunic and the ends of the sleeves. This M36 field blouse style is unusual, but not unheard of, for being of such a late-war 1943 construction, and is often seen in many late-war period photos. Unique opportunity to obtain a great rarity almost never offered in sale.
