Description:

DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER
(1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. T.L.S. on personal letterhead, 1p., 8vo., New York, February 4, 1949, a letter to General Howard McCrum Snyder, who would serve as Eisenhower's personal physician in the White House. Eisenhower wishes Snyder a happy birthday, in part: "...I want to extend felicitations on your birthday in person Monday, but on the chance that I don't get to see you (because of a Trustees Meeting and a Carnegie Corporation dinner) this note will remind you that Mamie and I hope February 7th will be the best birthday ever..." Eisenhower was then serving as the president of Columbia University, a position he would leave in 1950 when asked to head NATO. Boldly signed, "Ike" in black ink. Fine.
