Description:

Heavily corrected typed letter (unsigned) on White House letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Aug. 22, 1956 to Mayor Dan Searle in Monterey. Obviously unhappy with the formal tone of his letter thanking Searle for his hospitality, Ike adds about 40 words in his hand. In part: "....I assure you of our deep gratitude to you and the citizens of the area...The crowd we found at the Monterey Station upon our arrival was more than cordial...the experience was heart warming...". Although unsigned, still a desirable letter as Eisenhower holograph material from his presidency is a great rarity. Fine condition.
