DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER
(1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. Excellent content war-date T.L.S. on official letterhead as Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Forces, 1p., 8vo., [Messina?], August 18, 1943, a letter of thanks to Missouri State Senator William Baxter Waters. In part: "... As Allied Commander-in-Chief, I thank you in behalf of all forces for the prayers offered up in the Missouri State Senate. We have just achieved another great victory, brought about by the solid backing and encouragement of the people at home, and the indomitable spirit of our armies. We humbly go forward to the difficult tasks ahead, and hope that we may prove worthy of ultimate victory...". Boldly signed, "Dwight D Eisenhower" in black fountain pen. Eisenhower had just overseen the invasion of Sicily, with Generals Patton and Montgomery successfully capturing Sicily the day before! With transmittal cover. Fine.
