Description:

(DR. GEORGE E. GOODFELLOW)
GEORGE E. GOODFELLOW (1855-1910) Tombstone surgeon specializing in the treatment of gunshot wounds. After graduating from medical school in 1876, Goodfellow spent a short time in private practice before serving as an assistant surgeon in Tucson, then relocating to Tombstone in 1880. He was soon regarded as the state's leading authority on treating gunshot wounds, and became a close friend of the Earps. On Dec. 28, 1881, he had just walked past Virgil Earp when the latter was shot in an assassination attempt. An excessively rare original cabinet photograph, 4 1/4" x 6 1/2", a chest, up view of the doctor with imprint at bottom: "Fly's Gallery, Tombstone, A.T.". Fly was a noted Tombstone photographer who almost found himself in the middle of the famous gunfight which took place in the vacant lot beside his boarding house and studio. Indeed, Ike Clanton fled through Fly's boarding house to escape the carnage! Slightly foxed, else very good.
