Description:

DOCUMENT GROUPING OF HITLER YOUTH "FLAK HELPER" KURT WECHSEL
Good group of four original documents, all related to Hitler Youth "Flakhelfer" ("flak auxiliary") Kurt Wechsel. Includes: Wechsel's original "Wehrpass", or military identification book, 56pp. 12mo., Gelsenkirchen, Dec. 5, 1944, listing Wechsel's birth date as Aug. 4, 1928, indicating that he was sixteen when the Wherpass was issued. His identification photo is affixed to the second page, with his signature beneath. The covers are partially detached and show appreciable wear, and the national eagle appears to have been stamped out, else very good. WITH: Partly-printed D.S., 2pp. 8vo., Munster, Aug. 1, 1944, Wechsel's "personalausweis" identifying him as a "Luftwaffehelfer" assigned to a flak battery in Munster. His identity photo is again affixed, showing Wechsel in his HJ uniform. Shows heavy folds with some splitting, with file holes at the top edge, else very good. WITH: Partly printed document, 1p. 8vo., [Munster], Sep. 22, 1944, an award certificate presenting the War Service Cross, Second Class with Swords to Wechsel, listed here as a "lehrling" ("apprentice"). The certificate is signed in type by Luftwaffe chief Hermann Goering, with the stamped facsimile signature of the commanding general of flak in the region at the conclusion. Shows folds with some splitting, else very good. This award document is rarely seen granted to Hitler Youth members. WITH: Partly-printed document, 8pp. 12mo., [n.p.], July 10, 1944, Wechsel's Hitler Youth "gesundheitspass" ("health certificate"), listing one serious illness in 1933. Very good. Also present is a propaganda publication, "Das Fliegerbuch der Deutschen Jugend" ("The Aviator Book of the German Youth"), ed. Seigfried Winter (Reutlingen: Enszlin & Laiblin), 1941, 311pp. 8vo., intended to encourage Hitler Youth members to become involved with the Luftwaffe through numerous photos and stories of aerial combat. A woodcut image of Adolf Hitler is tucked inside the front cover. Shows an ink ownership inscription on the front flyleaf, else very good. Five pieces.
