653. PHILEMON DICKINSON (1739-1809) American lawyer and politician, Major General in the New Jersey Militia during the American Revolution. In 1784 he served as a member of the committee to choose the site of the national capital. A.E.S. removed from a document, 1p. 7 1/2" x 2", "Head Qrs" Raritan, Feb. 27, 1777, requesting that an unknown individual "Be pleased to have the above [document] posted up at your Door Yours P Dickinson." Ex. Walter Benjamin. Neatly laid into a larger sheet, light soiling, otherwise very good. $300-400
