Description:

DEED FROM THE REIGN OF GEORGE III
(1738-1820) King of England during the American Revolution, it was his policies of taxation and repression that led to the uprisings in the Colonies. A superb example of an illustrated indenture from the time of his reign, measuring a generous 31" x 24", and edged with finely detailed ornamental engravings at the edge depicting fanciful portraits of putti, silhouettes, and so forth. At top left there is a handsome engraved portrait of George II. Penned in a fine calligraphic hand, this document grants land in the area of Shropshire. With hanging stamped seal and scalloped left margin. Expected folds, otherwise in very good condition, with fine and bright script, and an unusually attractive example.
