David McMurtie Gregg (1833 1916 Union brigadier general who distinguished himself in one of the wars most important cavalry clashes at Gettysburg and served with Grant at Richmond Als lp 8vo Reading May 22 1903 to Capt Isaac Cragg. Gregg declines an invitation to attend the unveiling of a statue of Gen Joseph Hook in Massachusetts and adds: For General Hooker I had the greatest respect and admiration and I take great pride in the fact that I enjoyed the priviledge of serving under him when he commanded the Grand Old Army of the Potomac
