DANIEL O'CONNELL
(1775 - 1847) "The Liberator", Irish nationalist leader who forced the Catholic emancipation and fought for Irish self-rule. A.L.S. 4pp. 4to., London, Mar 31, 1836 to William Noble. O'Connell writes in part, noting the receipt of Noble's letter "and of course felt deeply anxious to gratify the wishes of the working Classes at Hull - I have therefore endeavored and I hope succeeded in making my arrangements so as to be able to address them by one O'clock on Wednesday the 6th...". He continues making detailed travel arrangements for other engagements adding: "I do feel an humble but confident hope that my visit to Hull may promote the Union of Reformers in the sacred course of Justice and Liberty...all we want is good government and cheap government - It can not indeed be good unless it be cheap...". Weak folds reinforced with tape, light toning, else very good.
