CONFEDERATE SOLDIER'S LETTER
A.L.S. of Pvt. Robert M. Rucker of the 2nd Tennessee, 2pp. 4to., "Camp Dave Currin", Feb. 18, 1862 to his father, writing in part: "...I suppose you have head by this time that our Regiment have all but about fifty men, reenlisted for two years or the war and are now on their way home, with furloughs until the first day of April; when they will rende[z]vous and reorganize at Nashville at that that time...Since the Regiment have left for home, we that are left here have hard that the regiment is ordered to Knoxville, and also those that have started [home] were ordered to be stopped at Richmond and other places on the road...We are left at present in rather an anomalous condition, and now, the forty or fifty men, doing the Pickett duty,- that the whole regiment did before it left - and you may say without officers, except Lieutenant Buttar, who was detailed to stay with us. I think it is probably that Gen Holmes will order us to Tennessee and if he does not, we may have to go into the Batteries at Evans port and take charge of a gun until lour time is out...our picketts [sic] were fired upon last night, some seven or eight shots from a vessel at us..." . Moderate uneven toning, usual folds, else very good.
