Description:

CONFEDERATE SOLDIER CHASES MURDEROUS RUNAWAY SLAVE
Fine slave content Confederate soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., Plymouth, NC, May 29, 1864. Phonetically written [and here corrected]. He writes in part: "...tell all by Brothers and Sisters howdy for me I should be glad to see them. I can say to you our guard duty is hard we have about 60 niggers where but 6 has run away one of them had a ball chained to his foot it weighed 20 [pounds] he had killed a woman and we was a going to kill him but darn him he is gone. So I must come to a close by saying I remain your loving brother till Death...". Some lightening to the "secession" ink used to pen the letter, some soiling, else very good.
