CONFEDERATE PRISONER'S LETTER
A.L.S. of Capt. D. M. McRae of the 13th Mississippi, 1p. 4to., Fort Delaware, Dec. 18, 1864. McRae had seen action at First Manassas, Yorktown, Malvern Hill, Harper's Ferry, Maryland Heights, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Chattanooga. He was captured at Knoxville on Nov. 28, 1863 and sent to Louisville Military Prison, from thence to Camp Chase and finally to Fort Delaware in March 1864. He writes, in part: "...Winter has set in and we have had some very cold weather, My being from the extreme south the cold goe's very hard with me...". With the original transmittal envelope. Usual folds, else very good condition.
