Good lot of three items signed by Confederate generals, includes: WILLIAM M. GARDNER (1824-1901), Lt. Col. of the 8th Georgia whose leg was badly shattered at Bull Run, promoted to brigadier general while convalescing and subsequently commanded the District of Middle Florida. Signature ‘Wm Montgomery Gardner' in black ink on a 3.75 x 2 in. card, adding his rank ‘Brig. Genl. C. S. A. ‘ Mildly toned, with mounting remnants on the verso, else very good. WITH: WILLIAM G. M. DAVIS (1812-1898), Confederate brigadier general who commanded the Department of East Tennessee but resigned his commission to operate a fleet of blockade runners out of Nassau. A.N.S.., 1p. 4to., Washington, D.C., Aug. 2, 1890, on National Hotel letterhead, complying with his unnamed correspondent's unstated request, likely for an autograph. He signs ‘W M Davis a the conclusion in black ink, adding his rank ‘late Brigr Genl C. S. A.' Shows folds, with slight paper loss to the top corners, else very good. WITH: ELIJAH S. C. ROBERTSON (1820-1879), Brigadier general of Texas state troops who donated much of his fortune to the Southern cause. Signature ‘ E Sterling C Robertson' in black ink on a 3.25 x 2 in. card, adding his rank ‘Brig Genl 27th Brig Texas State Troops'. Faintly toned, with mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. Three pieces.
