Description:

CLARA BARTON
(1821 - 1912) American nurse who tended the wounded in the Civil War and later founded the American Red Cross. A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., Glen Echo, Mar. 29, 1906 to Mr. Wells. In part: "...I do not personally know the active officers of the Association...We shall look for the 'two or three days in Washington' most anxiously...the First Aid is always to present, and enjoy Boston at its best and its friends and counselors risk nothing in coming...I cannot say how proud I am of the progress you are making...". She closes by discussing the need for secrecy surrounding the funding of "the Building", presumably the Red Cross headquarters. Very good.
