CIVIL WAR GUARD DUTY BOOK
A scarce leather-bound book from the D. Company, 12th Maine Regiment Infantry Vols., 120pp. 8vo., with entries by 1st Sergeant G. E. Andrews ranging from Nov. 1861-Oct. 1862. The 12th Maine organized at Elizabeth on November 16, 1861, serving for three years, and mustered out on Dec. 7, 1864. Each page of the book lists soldiers by rank and seniority, with occasional comments supplied by a commanding officer. Some referenced individuals killed or injured in battle include: James Andrews, KIA aboard the steamship Constitution; Charles Bartlett, Alonzo Coolidge, G. S. Porter, and so forth. Stains to cover with typical weakness at hinges, causing separation at spine, otherwise good condition.
