CHARLES SHIBELL
(1841 - 1908) Sheriff of Pima County (which included Tombstone), he appointed Wyatt Earp Deputy Sheriff on July 27, 1880. Earp held the job for about six months until he resigned to support Shibell's political opponent, Bob Paul. Rare D.S., 4pp. legal folio, [Tucson?], July 5, 1877, a contract between Shibell and the Quartermaster's Department for the supply of 225,000 lbs. of barley, signed by Shibell at conclusion. Also signed by Union Brigadier Generals JOHN C. KELTON and AUGUST V. KAUTZ. Very good, with three secretarial telegrams arranging the contract.
