CHARLES MANSON'S INTERVIEW WITH 'ROLLING STONE'
Typed transcript of an interview between Charles Manson and Rolling Stone magazine, 3pp. 4to., [Vacaville, Apr. 6, 1977], with the envelope in which Rolling Stone mailed the interview back to Manson. This interview, unsigned, was obviously typed in prison, annotated at top by a Rolling Stones staffer: 'Green is the Interviewer Yellow - C.M.'. The questions and Manson's answers are highlighted accordingly. It reads, in part: '...Can a group of people that killed nine people have respect and morals? Must have, or they would have had no real reason for killing nine people. How do you justify that? I don't need to justify it. I am it. I try to justify for not doing it better and by myself. Do you think that Christ would kill people? Yes. One/third. How are you related with Christ? I am. Do you think in his time that people also called him the Devil?...What would you be if you were god? Nothing. Eat, fart, laugh and love my moma and slober on her and lust her, and pull her hair and feel her wind and swim in her water and make beautiful pictures. I'm told you have said that the word God holds all he other words up. That do you mean by this? All the Christian mind can count on is Death. In life, truth in word is all that holds people together. To have faith in another person and your self first as much as the death on the cross. With out the word god being true, nothing is true, not even that...What is truth to you? Have you ever heard me lie to anyone ever. Truthful with your self. Everyone knows what the truth is. It's death in same minds brains. The truth is. Sharon Tate is dead. That's the truth and I didn't do it--that's the truth--and had the love to hold me above it, that's the truth--and I did what I was told, that's the truth and I can take life if that's all you understand as truth. I don't want to but I can because I was born and left in to that thought...' Much more. Fine condition.
