Description:

CHARLES MANSON'S 'AUTOBIOGRAPHY' AND PROPOSED MOVIE
Born in Oklahoma, author Nuel Emmons grew up in California during the Depression. He first met Charles Manson briefly in jail in 1956 while imprisoned for auto theft in 1956, and again for other crimes in 1960. In 1979, he contacted Charles Manson and began convinced Manson that he was fit to write Manson's 'autobiography', 'Manson in His Own Words'. The work was largely Emmons' paraphrasing Manson's statements given in person and via letters. Offered here is a group of related contract and correspondence concerning Emmons' work and a proposed film. Included is: a copy of a 4pp. T.L. (unsigned), Nov. 14, 1980, purportedly by Manson with a copy of a signed Monopoly $20 bill at the bottom, in which Emmons claims to paraphrase Manson's thoughts on his favorite television and film works but in language far more advanced than Manson would ever use; an unsent 1980 letter to 'Linda', possibly Linda Kasabian, speaking down to her, complaining of copyright infringement and hinting at her involvement with Manson; a 1p. 1980 draft letter to 'Red' (Lynette Fromme), very flattering and obviously trying to win her over for his project; a copy of the 6pp. 1986 contract for the British edition of Emmons' book on Manson; an unexecuted 5pp. contract with Heritage Entertainment to make a film from Emmons' book on Manson; photocopied images of a release and a permission letter for release of information, both signed by Manson (in the photocopy); a 4pp. contract with Grove Press for Emmons' book, not fully executed; some handwritten notes; and a small number of related letters, including his autobiographical sketch, pitches, etc. Very good.
