CHARLES G. "CHINESE" GORDON
(1833 - 1885) British soldier involved in the taking of Peking and suppressing the Taiping rebellion, resisted the seige of Khartoum when killed by forces of the Mahdi. A.L.S. 1p. 12mo., [n.p.], Aug. 3, 1871, in French to a lady apparently changing the time and date of a meeting. Soiled and wrinkled a bit, mounted, but still good. Sold with an A.L.S. by his sister AUGUSTA GORDON, 2pp. 8vo., Southampton, Aug. 22, 1878 thanking a lady for sending an original song, the "Khartoum Military March" and mentioning that she writes her brother weekly. Two pieces.
