Description:

GEN. LYMAN LEMNITZER'S PRESENTATION SWAGGER STICK - FROM A TREACHEROUS COMMUNIST!
LYMAN LEMNITZER (1899-1988) served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1960 to 1962 and Supreme Allied Commander, NATO from 1963 to 1969, known as one of the most strident communist-fighters. During the Bay of Pigs crisis Lemnitzer advocated that President John F. Kennedy launch an attack on Cuba. Kennedy refused and reminded him "over and over again" that he would not commit U.S. combat forces to save the operation. On 13th March, 1962, Lemnitzer presented Robert McNamara with a top-secret memo, urging Kennedy to order a variety of shocking incidents to create a rationale for invading Cuba. Code named Operation Northwoods, the memo suggested that the administration should arrange a terror campaign in Miami and Washington that would create international revulsion against the government of Fidel Castro. We offer a most ironis relic tying Lemnitzer to a future South Korean traitor, a 19 1/4" intricately-carved, possibly ivory "swagger stick" presented to Lemnitzer, bearing his name engraved thereon in red lettering: "GEN. L. L. LEMNITZER" with the presenter's name likewise engraved: "GEN. CHOI DUK SHIN" with "SAIGON VIET-NAM" engraved at top. The swagger stick, in two parts that screw together, bears four metal stars and two metal bands near top and at the pointed end, and is sold with its original fitted case. Fine. CHOI DUK SHIN (1914-1989) was the South Korean Foreign Minister and Ambassador to Bonn who moved to North Korea in 1984 after becoming affiliated with a dissident group that supported the Communist Government.
