Charles G. "Chinese" Gordon 1833-1855 British soldier involved in the taking of Peking and suppressing the Taiping rebellion, resisted the siege of Khartoum when killed by forces of the Mahdi. Good content A.L. S., 2pp. 8vo., [England], July 24, 1865, shortly after returning from China. Gordon writes: "...the latter is a very good command where I am my own master... I have no intention as yet of returning to China. I do not think one could do any good just yet and therefore have given up the idea, of course if I could see hereafter an opening it might be different. . not calculated to make. one risk an almost certain failure Thin mounting strip on left margin, light soil.
