63. CHARLES CLARK & WILLIAM J. HARDEE - CHARLES CLARK (1811-1877) Confederate brigadier general wounded at Shiloh and Baton Rouge, arrested for treason at the end of the war. WILLIAM J. HARDEE (1815-1873) Confederate lieutenant general who led his corps at Shiloh and Atlanta, and attempted to halt Sherman's March to the Sea. Rare war-date partly printed Confederate form No. 9 signed "Chas Clark" adding rank and endorsed by Hardee on verso, 1p. oblong folio, Hopkinsville, Ky., Feb. 14, 1862, being an "Estimate of Funds required for the Service of the Quartermaster's Department". Among listed expenses are: "For fuel - 3000...Materials for building Winter Quarters for troops and shelter for stock - 2500...Hire of mechanics for Blacksmith and wagon shop - 200..." On the docket it reads: "Appd, W Hardee. Majr Genl" entirely in Hardee's hand. Minimal toning, in very good condition. $700-900
