Description:

Cased Purple Heart named to SGT. FRANK C. DOBOSY, Co. M, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, killed in action on or about October 1, 1944. Newspaper articles from the era, copies of which are included in this lot, indicate that Dobosy was wounded from unknown causes on September 26, 1944, and later died from these injuries on October 1. While documents from the era indicate simply that Dobosy died ""Somewhere in France"", the sergeant was likely killed during the Battle of Metz - a lengthy three-month battle, lasting from September 1944 to December 1944, between the U.S. Third Army (including the 5th Infantry Division) and German forces. The award and its case are housed in a 17 x 13 in. display, lined with black cloth, surrounded with various materials related to the soldier's life and death, including an image of Dobosy's gravestone and childhood home. The coffin box, attached to the backing with Velcro, and the medal itself, attached to the backing with four non-destructive pins, can easily be removed if desired. Minor wear to the corners of the coffin box, else very good to fine condition. A wonderful tribute to a fallen soldier.
