Description:

Somber pair of U.S. Purple Heart medals, each complete with ribbon bar, lapel pin and presentation case, named to brothers Corporal John J. Erban and Private Richard E. Erban. Corporal John J. Erban, who served with the 1910th Ordnance Ammunition Company, was listed as KIA on June 6, 1944 in New Guinea. Less than four months later, Private Richard Erban, 350th Infantry Regiment, was originally listed as MIA in Italy, later changed to KIA on Oct. 25, 1944 when his remains were discovered via ID tag. These medals are accompanied with a large amount of research into both men, including a scanned letter from John Erban to his family, scanned newspaper clippings, extensive military records, and more. According to our consigner, an avid military researcher and collector of U.S. decorations and medals, these Purple Hearts "...are officially issued government replacement medals issued to an unknown member of their family, probably in the 1960s, dated and based on the style of the name engraving on the back of each..." Very good.
