Description:

Very fine matched and cased pair of percussion dueling pistols manufactured circa 1860, each 8 3/4" barrel, 14 1/2" overall, featuring octagonal Damascus steel barrels with the maker's name "G. Noack in Berlin" inlaid in silver on the top panel, as well as a proof mark showing a crown over "V". Each pistol is marked with the serial number "7076" on the silver butt cap, and numbered "1" or "2" on the barrel tang. They are stocked in walnut with finely carved and checked grips, and the lockplate, hammer, trigger guard and tangs are all beautifully engraved with foliate motifs. They are fitted with rear sites adjustable by means of a key (included), and feature a safety latch on the lockplate beneath the hammer. The bores both are clean and show strong and crisp rifling with a perfectly defined crown at the muzzle. Each shows minor freckling on the trigger guard tang, else in fine condition. The pair is housed in a 17 3/4" x 10" x 3" oak case with a fitted green velvet insert, securing the pistols along with a serial-marked bullet mold and unmarked, ramrod, copper powder flask, walnut-handled nipple wrench, oil flasks and additional accoutrements. Two covered compartments hold the key to the case, percussion caps, patches and a single lead bullet. The case lid is inlaid with a brass shield and border, showing a horizontal crack at center, else very good. A truly gorgeous set in superlative condition.
