CAMPAIGN OF 1777 A fine collection of six war date letters, 8pp. [various sizes], Apr. 6 to May 30, 1777 all addressed to Major Nicholas Quakenbush (1734-1813), Assistant Deputy Quartermaster for the Continental Army at Albany, New York. In this capacity, Quakenbush, situated roughly half way between Albany and Montr?al, was one of the most important people in the region, coordinating critical supplies that would ultimately result in the defeat of Burgoyne at Saratoga in 1777 and help secure the Mohawk valley frontier against Loyalist and Indian raids. The letters are primarily from others in the quartermaster corps concerning critical supplies for the campaign of 1777, a most important year in the war. The letters read in very small part: "[J. Keyes, Fishkill, May 7, 1777]...You will receive from Isaac Lane 100 Potts-100 Bowls - from Israel Wood 80 Tens 1,200 Ten t Pins... [W. Kies, Kings Ferry, Apr. 26, 1777]...Send you by the Bearer...28 Grind Stones... [H. HUGHES, Apr. 14, 1777] "...Those Bellows &c taken from one Smith, at Cortlandt's Manor, were taken from a Friend it appears now, and must be returned, if the owner insists on it...The Nailory will be fixed at Morrisons, it being the best...you did not tell me that the Galley was in the River? Do keep a good look out there?...", [J. Keese, Fishkill, May 6, 1777] "...W Ducychinck Inform'd me, that Poles could not be made for the Markees [sic], at any other place, than when they are to be pitche'd.- The Col has wrote, particularly, to the Genl respecting the Tents, Poles, Potts & Kettles...". More fine content. Most of the letters bear some minor faults including the expected folds, moderate to light soiling, and a few losses from seal tears, otherwise very good. $400-600
