CAMP TYSON BARRAGE BALLOON GROUPING
Rare grouping of relics related to Camp Tyson, Paris, Tn, World War II. Camp Tyson was the nation's only barrage balloon training center, teaching servicemen to build, repair, and use the barrage balloon in combat from 1941 to war's end. Countries saw the British first use the barrage balloon-- an air balloon with wire leaders hanging from it-- to defend against low-flying aerial attacks, and soon adopted the technique. Lot includes: a superb 9" x 6" b/w booklet, the official "Camp Tyson" guidebook, with 32 pages of photos featuring soldiers training; May 20, 1942 issue of The Gas Bag, the base newspaper; 6 3" x 5" color postcards featuring the base and barrage balloon troops in action; A.L.S. on official Camp Tyson Barrage Balloon Training Center letterhead, "Ernie", 2pp., 4to., Paris, Oct. 31, 1943, a letter from a barrage balloon soldier to his sister; a basic mileage gas ration card issued to LT. H. A. CARLISLE; a small Camp Tyson pennant and two Camp Tyson matchbook covers. From the personal collection of World War II and Civil War historian Michael Miner. Miner's thirty-year collection was built through an extensive system of contacts he developed with artifact hunters and diggers in Europe and the Far East, and he maintained careful records of the items he amassed.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyer's should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
