CAMP LETTERMAN CLOSURE DOCUMENT Rare Gettysburg Hospital manuscript D.S., 1p. legal folio, in the hand of and signed by Henry Janes, chief surgeon in charge of Camp Letterman, [Gettysburg, Nov. 5, 1863], an invoice for nearly twenty worn-out hospital supplies turned over to Capt. Henry H. Blood, A. Q. M. Gettysburg, for transportation to Baltimore during the preparation to remove all wounded from Camp Letterman hospital by the time Lincoln arrived to give his Gettysburg Address. All the articles are marked "worn" and include: "...towels...225...sheets...990...stretchers...177...wine bottles...281...iron bedsteads...297...". Nearly 4,000 patients were treated at Camp Letterman throughout the summer of 1863. On November 17, the last patient was discharged from what is now the Civil War's most famous hospital, and sent home to Ohio. Finally, all the medical personnel were discharged on Nov. 20, but the closing process of the hospital itself wasn't fully complete until February 1864. Fine condition. $400 - 600
