Description:

CALVIN COOLIDGE
(1872 - 1933) Thirtieth President of the United States who succeeded the Presidency upon the death of Harding. T.L.S. on Vice presidential letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington D.C., May 5, 1921, to controversial Harvard administrator Matthew Luce informing him of a letter of introduction he sent. In part: '...Mr Whiting called at my office and presented your letter of introduction, and I have been very glad to request from him a letter from the State Department. I have also forwarded to him a personal letter of introduction...' Boldly signed. Slightly creased, else fine. While a regent of Harvard, Matthew Luce was involved in an ad hoc tribunal called 'The Secret Court of 1920' that was formed to investigate homosexual activity among students and staff. The 'court' conducted interviews behind closed doors that led to expulsion and disassociation if those suspected were found ‘guilty'.

Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
