Description:

(1872-1933) Thirtieth President of the United States who succeeded to the presidency upon the death of Harding. COOLIDGE TRADES STOCKS Especially rare and interesting A.L.S. 'Calvin Coolidge' as President on White House letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Washington, May 24, 1927, to one 'R. S. Weeks', no doubt Coolidge's stockbroker, acknowledging receipt of his letter, and adding: '...You may buy me 100 N.S. Steel new issue now about 123-1/2 and 200 Kennecott Copper now about 64-1/2. Same arrangements as already made as to certificates and disposition of dividends...'. Docketed by Weeks at top. WITH a second brief A.L.S. by Coolidge signed with his initials 'C C', also on White House letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Dec. 7, 1928: '...Go ahead on your letter. Hope the div[idend]. is on...' Both letters bear folds but are otherwise fine. Within a year or so of the writing of these letters, the stock market would crash, partly due to irresponsible financial practices allowed to remain in place by Coolidge and his administration. Great content in rare presidential handwritten letters.
