CADWALLADER COLDEN
(1688-1776) Lieutenant Governor of New York who battled against the growing rebellion in the colonies. A.E.S." Cadwallader Colden" as Surveyor General of New York on the verso of a L.S. of New York Governor, WILLIAM BURNET (1688-1729), 2pp. legal folio, New York, Mar. 9, 1722/3 petitioning Colden on behalf of "...Philip Schuyler[who] did purchase the Tract of Land hereafter mentioned of the Native Indian proprietor of the same as by Deed to the said Phillip Schuyler bearing Date the 10th of July 1711 may appear...a Certain piece of Wood land lying and being in the County of Albany... by the North bounds of the Town of Schenectady, And that the petitioner Philip Schuyler hath granted to the petitioner David Brovoost[?] one half of the said Indian Purchase, and praying his Majesty's Letters Patents for the whole... You are therefore Required to repair to the land aforesaid... and Survey the same..." Colden endorses the request ordering Deputy Surveyor Nicholas Schuyler to conduct the survey. Light soiling and toning, usual folds, else fine condition.
