Description:
95. DANIEL BUTTERFIELD (1831 - 1901) Union major general who commanded a brigade at Bull Run, awarded the Medal of Honor for Gaines Mill, and wounded in that battle and Gettysburg. He also helped design the corps badges for the army and is credited with writing "Taps". S.P. 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" sepia, a full-length image by Brady of Butterfield in uniform, signed on verso: "Daniel Butterfield Bvt. Maj. Gen. U.S.A.". Front of photo bears a handwritten identification at top, verso likewise with a stamp indicating it originates from Scribner's Magazine, else very good. $300 - 400
