BROWN (1827-1889) Confederate major general captured at Fort Donelson, exchanged and led forces at Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Franklin where he was severely wounded and his command decimated. Scarce war date A.E.S on the face of a partly printed D.S., of Capt. Robert Cooper, 1p. 4to., Bowling Green, Ky., Dec. 1, 1861, a discharge for John H. Doyel bearing the printed heading "Army of the State of Tennessee" with "State of Tennessee" struck out and the emendation "Confederate States of America". Usual folds, otherwise fine. Sold together with an additional discharge form for Doyel detailing his final pay of $19.22 for his service in Company H of the 3rd Tennessee volunteers. A few losses, light toning, otherwise very good. Together, two pieces. $600-800
