Description:

BRITISH REPORTS ON GERMAN 'UNDERGROUND FACTORIES'
Three important printed British reports on German manufacturing sites, issued in 1946 and based on information obtained in the immediate weeks and months after the surrender of Germany. All were published in London by the 'Combined Intelligence Objectives Sub-Committee' of SHAEF and distributed for use by the Allies, presumably only the British and Americans. One reports is titled: 'Underground Factories in Central Germany', 155pp. 8vo., prepared by American G-2 officers and with photographs, fold-out images and diagrams, etc. This is a very detailed study of Germany's underground production facilities, established to avoid aerial attacks. Included is data concerning Kohnstein, Mittelwerk, Kuckuck, Zinnstein, Mittelbau, Turmalin, Dachs IV, Sonderhausen, Stolberg, and others. A second report, 16pp. 8vo., 1946 and prepared by British officers concerns Walter Werke in Kiel which manufactured rocket motors. The last report, 57pp. 8vo., ca. 1946 and also prepared by the British, is titled 'The I.T.T., Siemens and Robert Bosch Organization'. Marked as 'SECRET' and 'CONFIDENTIAL', it concerns the German Elektro-sonnen aerial navigation system. It found widespread use by UK forces, and they took over operation of the system after the war. Postwar, the system was used for long-range navigation under the Consol name. Three pieces.
