Lot 503
503. BERTOLD BRECHT (1898-1956) German playwright and poet influenced by the Symbolists and Expressionists, considered the foremost German playwright of the century. A fine and excessively rare item, an original A.Ms.S. of an apparently unpublished poem titled "Die Totenpflug", 2pp. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], on both sides of a yellow sheet, being ten stanzas of four lines each, clearly penned. "Der Totenpflug" has affecting content about a peasant who buries his deceased wife on their land. After weathering a period of mourning and neglect of the land, as well of his own life, the peasant returns to plow and sow his fields, so that his beloved wife would no longer lie barren in the ground. Signed at conclusion. Very good condition, and certainly worthy of further research. $10,000-12,000
