METCALFE BOWLER (c. 1726-1789) Delegate from Rhode Island to the Stamp Act Congress of 1765, and a Speaker of the Rhode Island Assembly, Bowler later became a spy for the British, corresponding regularly with Sir Henry Clinton under the pseudonyms "Rusticus" and "S.H."Rare D.S. "M Bowler", a State of Rhode Island $2 bill, 4" x 2 3/4", [Providence], July 2, 1780. Light soiling, usual creases, small loss at right margin, otherwise very good condition. We have not encountered an example of his signature in our memory. $300-400
