1798. AMELIA BLOOMER (1818-1894) Publisher of The Lily, the first women's newspaper which shifted focus from temperance to suffrage under the influence of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Because of her coverage and defense of the woman's undergarment "pantelettes", came to be forever be known as "bloomers", though she had not herself invented them. Nice clean signature removed from a document, in black ink, signed "Respectfully Amelia Bloomer", affixed to a larger sheet. One vertical fold, else fine. $75-100
